Position: Youth Helper

Classification: Casual                    

Location: Circle of Care Site

Starting Salary: Subject to Qualifications

Background:

The Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre is seeking individual for the casual Youth Helper position. The successful candidate will be responsible for children (0-12 years of age) newly in care or returning to care through ANCR. Circle of Care offers 6 licensed short-term beds that will operate 24 hours a day, 7days a week. You will offer a holistic approach with children, their families, and offer skills to meet the goals of reunification. The site is a safe, nurturing and the focus is on the wellbeing where children will have the opportunity to experience a culturally appropriate, family focused program. Our program works with birth families, CFS mandated agencies and sister organizations to provide wrap around support, mentorship, assessment, care planning and skill development in areas that include positive parenting, violence prevention, healthy relationships, education, conflict resolution and child development by using Indigenous culture and language.

Qualifications:

  • Child & Youth Care Diploma or acceptable equivalent and related experience
  • Residential Care experience would be an asset
  • Supporting Caseload and healing plans and implementing with the young women.
  • Provides support/supervision to the residents.
  • Program development and facilitation skills.
  • Incumbent must be aware of the impact and effects of sexual exploitation/ abuse on the lives of the young women and be able to establish relationships with resident’s build on trust and genuine caring.
  • Needs to have the ability to work cooperatively with others and contribute as a team member.
  • Ability to work under stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of the Child Welfare Legislation and standards
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of aboriginal values and community issues.
  •  First Aid/CPR Certification
  •  Valid Class 5 Drivers License
  • Current Police and Child Abuse checks
