Position:  Youth Mentor       

Classification: Full-Time Monday/Tuesday 4pm-12 am Saturday/Sunday 8am-8pm       

Location: Luke’s Place         

Starting Salary: Subject to Qualifications

Background:

The Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre is seeking individual for the casual Youth Helper position. Luke’s Place is a Level 4 residential home that offers 6 beds for long-term youth care (residential care facility-group home) for males 11-14 years of age. Luke’s Place consists of in house cultural appropriate programming and works with birth families, CFS mandated agencies, and other collaterals to provide wrap around support, assessment, care planning, and skills development of youth in areas of violence prevention, healthy relationships, education, and leadership development by using Indigenous culture and language.

Qualifications:

  • Child & Youth Care Diploma or acceptable equivalent and related experience
  • Residential Care experience would be an asset.
  • Supporting Care Planning of the youth.
  • Provides support/supervision to the youth.
  • Program development and facilitation skills.
  • Incumbent must be able to establish relationships with the children built on trust and genuine caring.
  • Needs to have the ability to work cooperatively with others and contribute as a team member.
  • Ability to work under stressful situations.
  • The ability to provide value-based care.
  • Able to follow a harm reduction model.
  • Knowledge of the Child Welfare Legislation and standards
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of aboriginal values and community issues.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License Preferred
  • Current Police and Child Abuse checks (not older than 3 months)
