Position Title: Family Group Conference Team Lead

Classification: Full-time (M-F / 8:30 am – 4:30 pm)

Location: 445 King Street

Salary: To be Negotiated

Background:

The Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre is currently seeking an individual for the position of Family Group Conference Team Lead.  The candidate will be responsible for continuous program development, implementation, evaluation and to manage the day to day of Ma Mawi WI Chi Itata Centre’s Family Group Conference Program. The model is an Indigenous-based and an Indigenous-led process that shifts the decision-making regarding the care and protection of children to the entire family and community.The incumbent will also be responsible for the supervision of approximately eight staff.

Qualifications:

  • B.S.W. degree or acceptable equivalent and related experience.
  • Working knowledge of the Family Group Decision Making Conference Model.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with staff, other agencies and the general public.
  • Skill base should include a working knowledge of child welfare issues as well as mainstream and traditional Indigenous healing methods.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining an effective working relationship with Indigenous and non-Indigenous non-mandated organizations.
  • Skills include strong assessment skills and a working knowledge of adult learning methods and of situations facing Indigenous children and families.
  • Extensive knowledge of community resources and the application of educational materials to practical situations.
  • Strong understanding of community capacity building models of practice.
  • Strong motivational and leadership skills.
  • Community service orientated, to effectively meet needs in a timely conscientious manner.
  • A team player/facilitator to encourage an environment that fosters effective results in teams.
  • Respectful to engage people and build helping relationships.
  • Flexible and an ability to respond effectively and positively in diverse relationships.
  • Confident and positive to engage families in the helping relationship process or to support, motivate and encourage others to make positive choices.
  • Maintain high level of independence and self-initiative.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Must provide current (within the last three months) Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Query, Child Abuse Registry check and be subject to Prior Contact Check.
