Classification: Full-Time Term to March 31 2026 (Extension dependent on funding)

Background:

The Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre Inc. is currently seeking an individual for the FEFI-CFS Liaison position with Nagijeung Abinoojiik.  The successful candidate must have a working knowledge of the Child Welfare system/CFS Act. Responsibilities would include assisting families to navigate the Child & Family Services systems; proactively ensuring CFS agencies are aware of the programs and supports available to families with our Nagijeung Abinoojiik and other Ma Mawi programs. The incumbent would connect with parents in a non-judgmental way through new and existing relationships.  Responsibilities would include attending meetings with families and their CFS workers to help them understand their care plans and work towards completing the plans and ensuring families are aware of their rights within the CFS system.  Must have a working knowledge of utilizing Indigenous ceremonies. The main goal is to prevent children going into care/foster homes, to strengthen existing family relationships, to increase placements with family members when required and assisting with family reunifications.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Human Services or acceptable equivalent/related experience.
  • Working knowledge of the Child Welfare Legislation and Standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially about documentation and report-writing.
  • Effective use of computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and electronic mail.
  • Ability to set and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to implement program polices and protocols.
  • Experience with group facilitation; decision-making; taking initiative; problem-solving, leading, planning, coordinating and facilitating meetings; de-escalating conflict; and providing solutions.
  • Excellent case and file management skills; stress management; time management; and documentation detail.
  • Knowledge/understanding and willingness to promote culturally sensitive services for families.
  • Able to maintain effective working relationships with Indigenous and non-Indigenous mandated agencies.
  • Understanding of Indigenous values and family issues.
  • Respectful to engage people/families and build effective relationships.
  • Must have a valid Manitoba’s drivers license and access to a vehicle.
  • Must provide current (within last three months) Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Query & Child Abuse Registry and be subject to Prior Contact Check.
