Position: Support Mentor/Shift Lead
Classification: Part Time (Sun- Thurs / 7am-3pm)
Location: Amoowigamig 715 Main Street
The Support Mentor/Shift Lead plays an integral role in successfully achieving the goals, vision and mission of the Amoowigamig Project and is responsible for its overall management and supervision, including:
- The incumbent will act in accordance with the Ma Mawi Code of Honour and the Amoowigamig service philosophy of providing trauma informed, harm reduction support, and assistance to our relatives. They will encourage individuals to view themselves as a critical part of the community.
- Providing leadership to a dedicated team in the delivery of services and programs to Individuals that is culturally sensitive, strength-based, and non-judgmental.
- Ensuring policies, procedures and obligations associated with property management are implemented and adhered to.
- Contributing as a member of Ma Mawi’s management team to achieving and advancing the organization’s vision, strategic goals, and operational objectives.
- Maintains data collection and case management system recording all relevant activity with respect to Individuals utilizing Amoowigamig, the operation of the site and its various program and service components. Analyzes information and disseminates information to Melissa Stone.
- Manages Amoowigamig project-specific program funds in accordance with approved allocation and professional finance practices, including Maintaining time sheets, authorizing cheque requisitions, and maintaining budget compliance and account management.
- Prepare reports, data for funders and other stakeholders.
- Ensures compliance with all standards, regulations, policies, and legislative requirements.
- Maintains the Amoowigamig office, ensuring that all internal and external communication is prioritized and directed as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Grade 12 or Equivalent
- Knowledge and understanding of the complex issues affecting men, women and gender diverse populations and people with disabilities who are homeless or at risk of experiencing homelessness.
- Knowledge of the complex issues regarding Indigenous homelessness.
- Training and experience in trauma-informed care and harm reduction practices.
- Knowledge of crisis intervention and risk management strategies – Non-violent crisis intervention; CPR, Mental Health First Aid; Naloxone administration; AED defibrillator use.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to work in a strong team environment with an inclusive and collaborative approach.
- Confident and positive with a high level of independence and self-initiative.
- Ability to work under stressful conditions.
- Ability to work in a non-judgmental way and with a high degree of compassion, understanding and sensitivity.
- Advanced interpersonal skills specific to the role, including de-briefing, active listening, conflict resolution, group facilitation, one-on-one direct support and problem solving.
- Demonstrated ability to support individuals with mental health and substance use issues, utilizing a harm reduction approach and working within a trauma informed model of care.
- Ability to work and empathize with people experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness who may have experienced abuse, poverty, grief and loss, oppression, violence, mental health challenges, addictions issues or may be living with HIV/AIDS and other life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.
- Demonstrated commitment to continual learning and improvement through the incorporation of reflective work-based learning approaches.
