Training Descriptions
A PEEK AT COLONIZATION is one-day workshop that explores racism affecting Indigenous nations and possibilities for reconciling actions. Colonization is an all-encompassing topic and the workshop is a small glimpse or “peek” into the features of systematic colonization and the devastating impact for generations when families and communities are disrupted and oppressed.
APPLIED SUICIDE INTERVENTION SKILLS TRAINING (ASIST) is a two-day course in suicide first aid. Participants will learn to recognize when someone may be having thoughts of suicide and how to work with them to create a safety plan.
EMERGENCY FIRST AID & CPR/ AED LEVEL C is a one-day course. This Red Cross Emergency First Aid and CPR/AED Level C course trains participants to recognize life-threatening emergencies and learn the protocols to handle them.
LATERAL KINDNESS is a one-day course based on values that create healthier relationships, such as respect and fairness. We explore the impacts of lateral violence and learn practical steps for conflict resolution. We discuss the importance of personal awareness and communication skills in fostering lateral kindness.
NARCAN is a one-day training that prepares participants for opioid poisoning emergencies, how to administer NARCAN, and discusses the benefits of harm-reduction models.
NON-VIOLENT CRISIS INTERVENTION is a one-day course that focuses on prevention and offers proven strategies for safely defusing anxious, hostile or violent behaviour at the earliest possible stage.
SAFE FOOD HANDLERS is a Level 1 Training is a one-day course that focuses on creating a culture of food safety at each step of the food preparation process. From receiving to serving to reduce the risk of food contamination.
safeTALK is a half-day course that helps develop suicide alertness and preparedness when supporting someone with thoughts of suicide.
TRAUMA INFORMED CARE is a two-day training. The purpose of Trauma Informed Care (TIC) is to increase knowledge about trauma and the impacts it has on ourselves, our community, and those we work with.
VICARIOUS TRAUMA is a two-day training. Vicarious Trauma (VT) is a term coined to describe the profound shift in worldview that can occur in helping professionals when working with individuals who have experienced trauma.
