ABOUT: Family Group Conferencing (FGC) is an Indigenous-led evidence-based model that assists families involved with CFS mandated agencies become the decision-makers in reunifying their families.
This informative and engaging 4-part series will provide participants with an understanding of Family Group Conference that is grounded in strengthening families through a holistic family-focused approach. A certificate of attendance will be provided.
Up to 50 participants. Participation is recommended for all 4 sessions, which include:
June 2/21 Session 1: This session will provide the history and our relationship with the Maori People of New Zealand, explore traditional Indigenous ways of knowing.
June 9/21 Session 2: In this session we will focus on techniques used by FGC facilitators to develop family connections, and the role and responsibilities for each of the FGC stages.
June 16/21 Session 3: In this session, we will review the intake process, assessment for program criteria, preparation stage, monitor, review stage, and the Welcome Home Ceremony.
June 23/21 Session 4: This session will emphasize the impacts of Family Group Conferencing (Indigenous Ceremony), relationship building between mandated and non-mandated in supporting the short and long-term goals of the Care Plan. Supporting reunification is the main goal of the FGC Care Plan.
